Introduction

Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 4 seasons overall ranks are 17k, 36k, 17k and 21k.

GW29

GW29 points: 51 (FPL average 25) Total points 1,896, Overall Rank: 36k, green arrow 3k.  Team Value: £98.1m plus £5.9m in the bank

I’ve used my Free Hit Chip and Bench Boost Chip

I talk about my team also on the FFGeek FPL Pod

Here’s the points from GW29:

So I won’t repeat what I said in my early team thoughts article but I was grateful for any sort of green arrow given that I went into the gameweek worried about a red.

A reminder about team structure

Regular readers will know that I categorise players as either Template, Template replacement, difference makers or bench players.

Template is defined by being owned by 7 of the 10 top FPL managers I follow.  I generally have them in my team irrespective of my thoughts about them as it protects my rank downsize.  The rest of the categories are, hopefully, self explanatory

Transfer thoughts

1 free transfer and £5.9m in the bank

A word about double gameweek 32 and blank GW33

So before I go into transfers I’m sure you’ll be aware that that Spurs have a DGW32 playing Everton A and Southampton H

There is also a blank GW33 as fixtures are displaced by the EFL Cup final. Spurs, Man City, Fulham and Southampton have no fixture

To complete the picture Aston Villa v Everton and Palace vs Southampton are past postponements have yet to be rearranged

There’s also theories that moving the fixtures forward so crowds could attend 1 home game for each PL team could create a DGW35 and a corresponding BGW36 because of the FA Cup final implications but I’m not focusing on that for the moment.

Wildcard and Chip thoughts

Before the DGW32 announcement and the theories on GW35-36 I was definitely going to wildcard GW31 as it’s a convenient fixture turn and with Leeds playing City and Spurs playing Man Utd it seemed a good place to trim down those teams.

What’s more Shaw plays Spurs, Coufal plays Leicester and Veltman plays Everton

However to wildcard and dump a Spurs player also seems difficult so how much advantage do I gain.

For the blank GW33 I have Gundogan, Cancelo, Lookman, Bale, Kane and Son. 6 so players with 3 transfers (GW31, GW32 and GW33) to field a full team assuming I don’t make a transfer affecting those players this gameweek.

The fixtures for GW31 and the length of time away makes me think holding the wildcard for later on seems a waste

I don’t have to make that decision this week but it does in someway effect my transfer this week.

Back to the transfer for GW30

As I said my focus has been on getting Bruno Fernandes in this week and the above news has changed the circumstances around that to the extent that the DGW32 has made me more reluctant to remove Bale or Son. Son looks like he could be fit and it seems the wrong thing to do to remove Bale before Newcastle even with the subbing he had in GW29

That effectively leaves 2 transfer choices:

The first is Gundogan out for Fernandes. Gundogan is a risky player to remove because of his ownership but has a tough fixture against Leicester. I think he also played 3 lots of 90 minutes midweek for Germany so could be rested. However he does play Leeds in GW31 so I would like him for that. Not an issue apart from the buy back price cash lost if I wildcard but difficult if I don’t wildcard for whatever reason.

The second is to take a -4 deduction and take out Lookman and Pope for Fernandes and Forster.

That removes Pope for the Newcastle game if I don’t wildcard but gets rid of a GW33 blanker (admittedly for another). Alternatively I could get back Gundogan next week for the Leeds game using this method if for some reason I don’t widcard

I really would have liked to punt on Alonso v WBA as Chilwell played alot of minutes in the International break and Alonso if he plays generally does against the not so good attacking teams. I guess in theory Emerson could play?

But I’m going to play what seems the safer bet in getting Fernandes back for Gundogan

Captain Choice

Kane is the clear favourite way ahead of Fernandes in the FFGeek Captain Poll and in the other main captain poll so I’m going with Kane. Fernandes will be vice

Lineup issues

So a tricky one this week.

The bookies see the bench as being in this order Coufal, Lookman and Veltman.

Joes transfer planner sees it as Lookman, Coufal and Veltman

Joe’s planner had a very good sub choosing record last season but I’ve stuck with the bookies so far so I’m going to continue with it. It could be irrelevant anyway if Pep rests Cancelo
