Introduction

This is part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

GW11 review

A frustrating gameweek, but going into the GW with only 10 players was always going to make it trickier to bag a green arrow. Things actually looked quite good on Saturday night. Kevin De Bruyne had produced a healthy Captain return (he should have had a hat-trick though!) and I was sitting just under 200k OR. Sunday killed this though – Son, Kane and Salah proceeded to smash my OR down into the 500ks and only a fortuitous assist from Walker-Peters on Monday night bumped me back above half a million.

Most weeks, 6 returners is enough for a green arrow but with so many big-hitters returning it was always going to be a struggle, especially when you don’t own the ones that top the overall ownership lists. Selling Son and Kane on my Wildcard now looks like a bad move, but it made sense at the time. You wouldn’t have expected them to turn over City and also beat Arsenal so easily – The Gunners are in dire straits at the moment for sure. Not owning Salah is something I’ve remedied this week, but it might yet bite me on the backside after he surprisingly played 90 minutes in the UCL this week. Unfortunately, I think it’s more pain before gain for me….

GW12 Team

So my key move this week is to get Salah back and the only way I can do it is with a hit. I’d already planned my move for this last week – Salah and Bamford for the injured Ziyech and Vardy, but I had to do the move on Sunday night as I had no room for manoeuvre money-wise. Luckily it looks like I’ve got away with no injuries in midweek unless anything comes up in tomorrows Pressers.

It has left me a dilemma this week in that I need to bench someone from my front 8. I’ve messed up a bit in my planning here in truth by bringing Adams in last week – I should have rolled my transfer in which I case I could have done things without a minus 4 but hindsight is a great thing. In terms of who to bench, Salah, KDB, Bamford and Grealish are all in so it’s one from Adams, DCL, Fernandes and Jota. In terms of fixture, DCL has probably the trickiest one but in terms of safety Adams is probably the best one to bench (even though he faces the league’s bottom team) as he has the lowest percentage ownership. So I’m leaving him in the first bench spot. It’s a tough call – any of these 4 could easily get a double-figure haul and could easily get a 1 pointer…let’s hope I’ve got this right!

For the rest of my line-up, I did consider playing Neco Williams this week, but he looks like a 1-pointer waiting to happen so I’ll stick with my 2 premiums and Walker-Peters vs Sheffield United. Salah looks like a runaway choice for Captain this week despite 90 minutes in the midweek. Am I worried by this? A little, but I do expect him to start and suspect he’ll get at least an hour. My thinking on this is that if Liverpool are comfortably ahead after 60 minutes he’ll probably have bagged at least 1 return and if they’re not comfortably ahead, he’ll probably stay on the pitch. We’ll see.

So it looks like a tough week on paper and I’m expecting more pain in terms of Overall Rank – the minus 4 will put me down to about 550k so anything under 500k I would consider a success at the end of the week. Rankings are really tight though. It’s about 7 points per 100k from 200-800k so need to be realistic in that there is a lot of yo-yoing around at present. The plus side is that it’s a quick turnaround to GW13 and I like my team for 13 ad 14 – I should be able to carry my midweek transfer and will then have 2 in GW14 when I’ll probably free up some cash on Adams and invest the money into another premium defender, possibly going double CIty at the back.

All the best for this week folks – I hope you enjoy the games (I’ll be hiding behind the sofa for Palace v Spurs though…might be a good time to walk the dogs!) And finally, don’t forget it’s a Friday deadline again.

A 70 points week is usually a good one, but not quite this time for me with such high scores all around. In particular my week moves didn’t pay off. I took a hit to bring in a second playing keeper along with Martinez, and Johnstone gave me 0 points, so that was pretty pointless. I transferred in Mahrez who blanked. And somehow I played Brewster instead of Soucek so that his points stayed on the bench. At least a second week of captaining De Bruyne kept me afloat.

This week I used an early transfer following the injury to Ziyech, who I replaced with Grealish. There are a couple of positions in the team that need strengthening, but I think that will be another day’s problem. The lineup this week is not straightforward with City playing United. It is difficult to see clean sheets there, so I’ve left Telles in the bench along with the Sheffield United pair, which means playing Cancelo. Having two playing keepers now, brings the additional worry of picking the wrong one. Have gone with Johnstone hoping that Newcastle are not are their best following their Covid shutdown. Furthermore, I am not convinced either that Mahrez will start, but can’t be benching a 9m player for Brewster. You know what will happen next, Brewster scores a brace…

Captain is as well tricky. Fernandes and KDB could both deliver big, as Kane could do too. I haven’t got any strong feelings for any of the three over the other, but will be going Kane captain and Fernandes vice.

Good luck all!

Like everyone I am aspiring towards a premium-heavy midfield of Salah, De Bruyne and Fernandes. I have the latter two, but would need a hit to bring in Mo this week unless it involved sacrificing De Bruyne.

The obvious hit route would involve downgrading Vardy to a cheaper striker, say a Brewster or, my preferred option given the fixtures, Wellbeck.

I will need to do this eventually to end up with my stated aim of a heavy-hitter midfield. But I don’t think I could stomach doing it right now given Vardy’s decent home fixture this week: it’s just not a good exit point.

So instead I think I will delay for a week, and use my transfer this week to bring in Salah at the expense of De Bruyne. I am gambling on the City man not scoring heavily in the derby, and not being a captain favourite. I also like the idea of having triple Liverpool for the Fulham match. Salah would get the armband.

Then, next week, I would bring back De Bruyne for Jota or Grealish, using a -4 (Vardy to cheapie) to subsidise this. And that would finally give me the big midfield trio!

I hope that all makes sense!

Best of luck to you all.
