Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW36 player picks
Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 36 Player Picks.
You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.
I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!
Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 36 Picks
Banker
With there being only 3 more GWs left this season, there will be no further Banker picks. I’ll continue to follow the remaining Banker picks however as previous.
Ace – Sadio Mane (LIV 10.0m) – HUD
There looks to be lots of good captain options this week, but once again it’s hard to look beyond who’s playing against Huddersfield, especially when it’s in-form Liverpool. There’s a plethora of good options for The Reds and I’ve gone for the Senegalese star for our Ace pick this week. Looking at the last 4 weeks, Mo Salah has actually been the more productive of the Liverpool FPL midfield options with 2 goals and 2 assists, versus a solitary goal for Mane. There is however a minor doubt about the Egyptian’s gametime after a midweek jaunt to New York for Time Magazine so I’ve opted for Mane who should have the more secure minutes as well as a price tag that’s 3.2m less. We probably don’t need reminding how wretched The Terriers form is but if you’re hungry for some stats, they’ve shipped 19 goals away from home against the other 5 members of the big 6 this season. I suspect there’s going to be a lot of Friday night captains this week!
Joker – Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (CAR 4.8m) – ful
GW36 brings my most left-field Joker pick of the season so far with this week’s selection having a grand total of 1880 owners in FPL at present! He’s been sidelined for a fair chunk of this season, but he looks to have found a bit of form over the last couple of weeks, with a 10 point return away to Brighton in GW34 and a good (albeit blank) display against Liverpool in GW35 where he caused a lot of problems for Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Bluebirds are scrapping for their EPL lives at present and an away trip to Craven Cottage will be seen as a great opportunity for 3 points, despite Fulham having amazingly kept 2 clean sheets in a row! My thought process here is that there is no way they can make it a hat-trick and that Cardiff will be keen to make this game a real scrap which should hopefully produce lots of chances and allow Mendez-Laing’s power and pace to expose The Cottagers fragile backline. A massive game for the visitors – anything less than a win and they’re surely relegated, especially with a trip to Old Trafford in their last game of the season.
That’s all from me this week on Player Picks, best of luck for this week everyone!
