FPL team tips GW36 – FFGeek contributors show their GW36 teams part 1

Here’s part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

At the end of each commentary I’ve included a transfer summary.

Jordan Sadler

Jordan finished with an overall rank of 76k last season

GW35 points: 71 (average 67) Total points 2,171 Gameweek rank 2,413k, Overall Rank: 13k, red arrow 6k, Team Value: £104.6m

Jordan has his Bench Boost left which he is playing this week

Gameweek 35 review

With me not playing a chip the week was pretty poor all in all. Had 7 returns which is pretty decent but a score of 71 has dropped me to 13k overall which is the lowest I’ve been since GW9. I’m unfortunately paying the price for a lack of time for FPL recently but it’s the way it goes. Lacazette was a major disappointment as was my captain Jimenez. My transfer of Vertonghen in ended up being a success though so that’s good.

Gameweek 36

Transfers

Just a very boring transfer this week: Speroni out, Guaita in. This is in preparation of me using my bench boost this week which I shall be.

Bench

Bench boost this week.

Captain

Has to be Mane against Huddersfield, I expect Liverpool to really put them to the sword.

Good luck with gameweek 36!

GW35 review

The double gameweeks have rather been a let down for me this year, though I again have myself to blame as I continue to overthink certain decisions at critical times. Instead of taking the simplistic and original approach of bench boosting which would have garnered plenty of points from the likes of Duffy and Lloris, I decided to activate the triple captain. Now had my choice of Sterling been able to convert at least one of the many presentable chances that came his way during two games then I wouldn’t be feeling so downhearted. However, he was only able to bring home a single assist while Brighton miraculously keeping a clean sheet in their first game was followed up the sucker punch of a 90th minute goal from Andre Gray – he would have been a transfer in as part of the BB strategy. In the end, I settled for a miniscule green arrow and I am hoping for a couple of strong weeks to finish off the season!

GW36 Team

Time to keep things simple this week with my two free transfers and I am ensuring that I have three Liverpool players for their fixture against Huddersfield. I already own Mane (who is the obvious captain pick for me) and TAA while Salah is difficult for me to obtain so I have settled on bringing in Van Dijk for Duffy. Centre-halves have history of netting crucial goals during the title run-in while I suspect Brighton will have to go on the attack during their home game against which could leave themselves susceptible to a rather in-form Newcastle strike force.

The rest of my squad looks strong and the thought of swapping Deeney to enable the use of the bench boost did cross my mind. However, I still plan to save it until GW38 where my Southampton players look like great enablers given their home fixture against relegated Huddersfield. Therefore, I will roll the other transfer for this week and look to position myself suitably to activate that final chip of the last day of the season!

Best of luck all and may your arrows be green!

Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv finished with an 8k OR last season

GW35 points: 127 -4 on BB (average 67) Total points 2,194 Gameweek rank 9k, Overall Rank: 7k, green arrow 8k, Team Value: £105.7m

Yaniv still has his TC left

GW35 review

Hi guys, so my best GW of this year comes at a great time just before the end of the season and I now have an OR inside the top 10k (now 7k) after a season high of 127 points due to the BB chip (10 returns out of 15).  My main goal is to keep this rank and try to get inside the top 5k

I did two subs last GW to maximise the DGW players and to try to have a decent amount in the bank to upload Liverpool players for GW36 (now have 3.5 ITB).  The first one was Vardy to Gray which was successful due to late goal from Gray who outscored Vardy by 2 points.  The other cost me 9 points (I could have been in the top 5k without it) as Dunk outscored Cathcart by 5 points after Watford conceded a very late goal by a poor Huddersfield team.  However,  for sure I will not complain about this one.

GW36

About this GW, I really have a decent lineup for now as you will see, but I am leaning towards getting another 2 Liverpool players as I wrote, I just can’t decide who will I get (will love to hear your thoughts!!!). it’s between getting Mo and Mane together (means Raheem and Son will leave my team) or maybe Mo and Firmino (for Kun and Son) as a differential for the top 10k teams, or just Mo/Mane plus VVD (for Raheem and Doherty) who can get double figures very easily this GW, so I just can’t decide what will be the final one,

Armband

The obvious is to use the TC this GW with Mo or Mane but I am still not sure, after City passing the 2 most tough games maybe Liverpool will give more weight to Barca games than easy one on the paper vs Hudder, so maybe an early subs for the two… so it will be one of them but maybe the TC will move to 37 as Kun / Rahim can score very big at any last home game (it really doesn’t matter that the opponent is Leicester), so I will monitor and be another last minute call (lucky you can easily reverse the use of this till the last minute not like the FH chip).

Line up it is all depends who will come out, but for now the debate is between Doherty and Duffy.

Good luck all!

Yaniv

GW35 review

The last double gameweek of the season has concluded then and it’s finished with a bang in the latest instalment of my chaotic FPL campaign! 101 net points was a satisfying return in the end for my Bench Boost with some highs and lows along the way in what was my first (and likely only) gameweek ton of the season, yielding a healthy 27% improvement in my Overall Rank.

On the initial face of it, it was actually a fairly average set of performances from my squad. 7/15 returning players including only 1 return from my strikers – an assist from my captain Aguero. However the trade-off for this was gametime. I had 13 double gameweek players, of these 12 started both games and the other one (Kolasinac) at least had the decency to come off the bench for a point in the one he was benched in. My 2 single gameweek players both returned and there were 4 clean sheets, 2 assists and 6 bonus points from my back 7. Over half my gameweek points came from these 7 players, with huge mentions to my Brighton pair for their backs to the wall clean sheet against Wolves before being cruelly denied against Spurs and to Jonny from Wolves who finally delivered some attacking returns to end up my highest scorer this week with 17.

It goes to show how important a good strategy is for these key doubles and how the Bench Boost can help. Even if you have only an average week, if your squad pretty much all start you’re on close to 60 points before you even think about any returns you have, or how your captain performs. It can make a huge difference to your Overall Rank and if your squad fires – the ceiling is massive. Just look at how Geek’s team has done this week, an amazing performance!

Looking further beyond this, it also shows how beneficial it can be having a good plan to navigate these blank and double weeks. I learnt my lesson from this last season, where my plan was a bit vague and I made some poor decisions on squad players and captains. This rest of this season may not have gone that well overall, but I’m very pleased with my returns from GW31 to 35. A 5 gameweek average of 71 versus the average of 51.2, overall rank going from 235k to 106k and all without a Wildcard. Although I’m going to finish much further down the overall rankings than I’d hoped, it’s been a lot of fun navigating these weeks a little differently and it’s a strategy I’d consider even if I was placed much higher. The challenge for me now over the last 3 gameweeks is to keep the momentum going and try and get myself into the top 100k. Let’s have a look at what’s in store for GW36….

GW36 Team

Not too much deliberation required here on the transfer front. I was always going to bring Mane back in for the Huddersfield fixture provided he was fit, the only question was who I was going to sell. In the end it’s between Son and Pogba. Both disappointingly blanked in the double so it comes down to who’s going to serve me best in the remaining weeks. Looking at it, it has to be Son that stays – Spurs have West Ham at home this week and he should play with as he’s suspended for Spurs UCL semi-final 1st leg in midweek. Pogba’s form has dropped dramatically over the last few weeks with those 2 penalties in GW34 his only returns since GW28. United are also in poor form and have a tough fixture against Chelsea this week, which could be key for both sides hopes of qualifying for the UCL next season. My only worry is that United play Huddersfield in GW37, but I could even play a bit of midfield merry-go-round by selling Pogba this week and then bringing him back in for Son next week. We’ll see how things pan out.

For team selection, my front 7 pick themselves but I’ve selection dilemmas in goal and in defence. For keeper, I’ve gone Ryan over Foster to raise the points ceiling for my team. Watford play Wolves and I have 2 attacking Wolves players, while Ryan is at home to Newcastle in a must win game for a Seagulls side who’s last 2 fixtures are against Arsenal and Man City. I can’t bring myself to pick 2 Brighton defensive players again though, so I’ve gone for Bednarek and Jonny who accompany VVD at the back, benching Dunk and also leaving out Kolasinac.

Now the captaincy. I’m torn on this one with Aguero, Mane and Salah the 3 options. Aguero hasn’t been quite as productive away from home this season and I can’t really overlook Liverpool playing Huddersfield so it’s got to be one of Liverpool boys. I’m very tempted by Salah this week – in terms of returns, he’s been the more productive over the last 4 weeks but there are some concerns over his gametime after his New York jaunt and Mane I think will be heavily backed. At the moment I’m on Mane as I’m thinking if I own both, the Shield option is the slightly safer bet but if the polls show anything different I may flip. As usual, I’ll Tweet if I change my mind.

All the best for GW36 everyone – it should be an interesting week on the FPL side and it will certainly be another tense one in the race for the title, the battle for UCL places and at the bottom of the table. Good luck all – may your arrows be green!

Costas Chari

Costas finished with an OR of 29k last season and 27k in 16/17

GW35 points: 90 -12 on BB (average 67) Total points 2,083 Gameweek rank 497k, Overall Rank: 82k, red arrow 10k, Team Value: £103.3m

Costas has his TC left

Hello all and good luck on the remaining 3 gameweeks!

DGW35 was never going to be special for me after I took a -12 point hit. A Watford clean sheet would have made things better as I doubled up on them but that late goal on the 90th minute really cost me. Femenia got benched for the second game and Aubameyang (captain) did not even make the bench so it was a disaster for me hence the 10k red arrow in OR. It feels like this season is going from bad to worse.

At the moment my 80ish k OR is really far away from my initial target or finishing in the top 0.5% for a 4th successive time (that would be around 30k rank) so at least I am hoping I finish in the top 50k.

Gw36 transfers- its Hazard out for Sterling who I am hoping starts after getting a full 90min game at Old Trafford.

Lineup- its Femenia on the bench as I don’t want to double up on Watford again. He is joined by Hojbjerg and Bennett.

Captain- its definitely Salah after Klopp dismissed any chances of rotation.

Good luck!
