Rob Reid with his fantasy premier league GW38 player picks

Hi everyone and welcome to Gameweek 38 Player Picks.

You may recall that last season I ran a weekly article where I selected an Ace, Banker and Joker pick each week. This season I’ve slightly changed the format but I’ll be making my picks along similar lines. The Ace will be a form player who I would heavily favour for captain this week. The Banker is a fixture pick and has an eye to the next few gameweeks. The Joker will be a differential pick where the only condition is that they must have less than 10% ownership.

I’ll be keeping an eye on how each player performs each week. After the success of GW1 & 2s Bankers, I’ve decided to go back on my original plan and I’ll now be following the Banker pick for 4 weeks again, like I did last season. I’ll also be running a weekly average on how well the selections perform each week. Finally, there will be Guest Picks again from time to time and I’ll be running some Twitter Polls throughout the season where Fantasy Football Geek readers and Twitter followers will be able to vote on who we’re going to pick in each category – keep an eye out for these as the season goes on and feel free to vote!

Here goes – wish me luck!

Gameweek 38 Picks

Banker

With there being only 1 more GWs left this season, there will be no further Banker picks. I’ll continue to follow the one remaining Banker pick, Sergio Aguero in GW38.

Ace – Jamie Vardy (LEI £9.0) – CHE

To me, this looks a great fixture for The Foxes. Chelsea have secured a Champion’s League berth for next season, they will be tired after being taken to penalties by Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday and they will be keen to make sure they don’t pick up any injuries for the upcoming Europa League final at the end of the month. I would therefore expect a significantly rotated and weakened Blues side to travel to the King Power which should mean that Leicester profit. The home side could count themselves a bit unlucky to go down to a worldie of a strike from Vincent Kompany on Monday and have certainly been on a fine run of form prior to that. Vardy is their prime attacking asset though I’d also consider Tielemans in midfield as well, especially if you’re looking for a replacement for the suspended Son for example.

Joker – Danny Ings (SOU £5.4m) – HUD

Let’s have one more shot at picking someone who’s playing Huddersfield then and I’ve gone for Danny Ings for this week’s Joker pick. Shane Long may have had more security of starts over the last few weeks, but Ings is potentially the more explosive for a 1 week punt and I expect Hassenhuttl may make some changes after their poor display at West Ham last week, giving the on-loan Liverpool striker a start. We all know about how vulnerable visitors Huddersfield have been this season, but they certainly restored some pride in their final home game against Man United last week, proving to be resolute and showing good grit in the second half. I think they’ll find matters tough at St Mary’s though – the home side have scored in their last 13 home games and will be keen to finish the season on a high.

That’s all from me this week on Player Picks, best of luck for the final week of the season everyone!
