Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW28 wildcard tips article where we pretend we are using our wildcard. It gives player suggestions with more longevity than just for the up coming gameweek.

Our FFGeek imaginary wildcard article brings together the various earlier articles in the week.

Firstly I would say that I wouldn’t wildcard now. I would use my wildcard to maximise the points potential in the double gameweeks coming up. See my latest article on potential blank and double gameweeks. Also the recent article where a few FFGeek contributors talk about plans for their chips.

This is a short article where I’m pretending I’m using my wildcard to give you player picks with more longevity than the next game. It’s short as there are few stats.

I’ve given links to articles below with all the detailed stats you’ll need if you want to investigate a player in more detail.

In this article there’s some brief narrative on the selection below. There’s stats in the player ranking articles which can be found here using the links below

There’s also our fixture ease article which gives player suggestions with good fixtures. You can also see who the popular transfers are in our bandwagons article and who the 10 top FPL managers I follow have in their team

FFGEEK’S IMAGINARY WC TEAM

The team value is around £103m. The team has been set up to accommodate a potential blank GW31 on the basis of the free hit not being used. Stoke v Everton and Liverpool v Watford, Huddersfield v Palace and Bournemouth v WBA are confirmed fixtures

STRUCTURE

The structure in this team is flexible and could really be any of the most common formations depending on fixtures

GKS

With the uncertainty over the CB lineup and a prohibitive price for Valencia I’ve gone for De Gea as my Man Utd defensive cover.  Despite some difficult fixtures the Mourinho bus and the Man Utd super stopper can still rack up clean sheets or, if not, save points can still materialise.

Hennessey is my cheap GW31 cover GK

DEFENDERS

With Man City and Chelsea having tricky short term fixtures I’ve looked elsewhere for premium defenders and gone for the short term fixtures and defensive strength of Spurs and Liverpool.  Vertonghen is the safe choice in the Spurs team and Van Dijk in the Liverpool lineup.

After that I’ve gone for the defensive mentality of Burnley with the safest pick being the most expensive in Ben Mee.

Then I’ve gone for 2 cheap GW31 defenders.  Hegazi as WBA have some good fixtures leading up to GW31 and WBA should be able to hail a few clean sheets down in that schedule.

Bauer will probably be the bench option until GW31 as Stoke have some reasonable tricky fixtures leading up to there

MIDFIELD

Salah  should require no explanation.

I’ve kept with Sterling as him not playing v Wigan, Man City’s exit from the FA Cup and a dead rubber v Basel in the UCL will hopefully still maintain some decent gametime going forward in the PL.

Mahrez has been very consistent and has some great fixtures.  His self enforced rest should also benefit future performances with additional freshness.

Deulofeu and Ibe are 2 cheap GW31 options

FORWARDS

Kane should need no explanation.

With Jesus back in training, some tricky fixtures coming and the number of recent games clocking up as the only fit striker I’ve gone for Firmino over Aguero.

Lastly I’ve gone for Niasse who’s posted excellent returns and underlying stats for the price.  I’m banking on him to hold off Tosun in the near future at least

BLANK GW31 WATCH

Guaranteed GW31

Liverpool – Van Dijk, Firmino and Salah

Watford – Deulofeu

Stoke – Bauer

Everton – Niasse

Bournemouth – Ibe

WBA – Hegazi

Huddersfield – none

Crystal Palace – Hennessey

That’s 9 into total.  I’ve assumed Spurs will beat Rochdale and their game will be postponed.
