Fantasy premier league team tips GW6 – FFGeek contributor’s teams part 2

This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Joseph Crilley

Joseph’s last 3 seasons OR were 28k, 7k and 13k

GW5 points: 42 (average 52) Total points 290 Gameweek rank 5,264k, Overall Rank: 770k, red arrow 464k, Team Value: £101.3m

A pretty shocking week last time out with only 9 players scoring better than zero, no clean sheets and another captain blank resulting in a measly score of 42 points and a gameweek rank of 5.3mil. I needed 18 miraculous points from my Norwich duo of Pukki and Cantwell to reach those lowly heights, otherwise it could have been even more ugly. Ironically, I still like the look of my team and feel that I have plenty of good options around the squad along with a decent structure, so I am not looking to overreact heading into GW6.

I do have plenty of flexibility with transfers this week though as I have 1.5mil ITB and two transfers to use so I may look to make some tweaks to my playing formation. Ideally, I’d look to shift some funds up front as I have continued to operate with a single striker while watching multiple forwards banging the goals in during the early portion of the season. The striker that I would ideally like is Aubameyang as he has the form and the fixtures, but he’s affectively impossible to obtain without selling a premium asset which I am not prepared to do yet. Therefore, I’ll have to settle for a cheaper option while I am also eyeing up Otamendi, Mount and Soyuncu.

In order to raise funds for a striker move, I am willing to sell Lanzini because, while he as ticked over reasonably, he isn’t showing the desired goal threat. I am also prepared to break-up my double Liverpool defence by moving Van Dijk on as the fixture is turning for the Reds and the clean sheets haven’t quite come as expected.

Therefore, my current plan is to make two moves this week with Ashley Barnes being the striker that I turn to for his lovely little run of fixtures now, although I am slightly concerned about his stats from the last two games. Van Dijk and Wickham would be sold to fund this move with Otamendi coming in as I still believe the possession that City have will allow the clean sheets to come. I would be able to then sell Lanzini for Mount in GW7 to take advantage of Chelsea’s nice schedule – of course, any worrying news about Mount in Friday’s press conference will change things.

I haven’t thought about captain too much as I will be sticking with Sterling again; having dropped 5 points already, I believe Pep will be playing his strongest team against Watford and Sterling is certainly in that. I have fond memories of his hat-trick against the same opposition last year, so I will hoping for a repeat!

All the best to everyone this weekend and may your arrows be green!

GW5 review

Ok shall we agree just not talk about GW5? What a disaster. 3/11 returns, 1 return left on the bench and a captain blank. It was another week where other premium assets banged, so this was always going to end up being a hefty red arrow – especially with it still being early season and rankings being very volatile.

The bright spots were Pukki, Mount and Salah. The dark spots? Well defence again, a blank from Sterling, KDB only making a cameo appearance later on and a last minute clean sheet wipe-out for keeper Ryan. All in all definitely a week to forget, leaving me with lots of questions going into what looks like a tough GW6. More pain coming I fear.

GW6 Team

First up the good news. I’ve got 2 free transfers. And that’s about it! Let’s look at the problems: Mount’s midweek injury, long shifts in the Ukraine for Sterling and KDB while Aguero put his feet up, the return of Mendy putting Zinchenko’s place in doubt and the poor form of the rest of my defence, not to mention me still carrying a non-player in Locadia. I’ve also got keeper Mat Ryan’s fixtures turning sour next week and Haller facing a tough fixture along with the Liverpool boys who visit Stamford Bridge. Yep this ain’t really setting up well for a good score.

I’m considering a few options. First up is a bit of a dullard option and that’s having a bit of a shuffle of my budget assets. Dendoncker would become Cantwell and Locadia would become Ayew. Fills my squad out a bit, but doesn’t exactly light things up. Another option I’m considering depends on Mount’s fitness. If he’s injured then I’ll sell him for Cantwell and probably move Zinchenko to either Otamendi or Vertonghen. This would just leave me enough in the bank to get Abraham for Locadia either on a hit this week or next week, though any price rice on Thursday would scupper this. Option 3 is more aggressive and riskier – Sterling to a cheap mid and Locadia to Aguero! This gives me what looks like guaranteed gametime on my preferred Captain pick, though obviously does come at a price if 44% owned Sterling does well.

I did briefly consider playing my Wildcard this week, but I shelved that idea fairly quickly. The main motivation for this would be to swap out some of my City assets for players from other premium clubs with good fixtures like Son and Aubameyang. The problem with this is that City’s fixtures are still too good and let’s face it, the Norwich result is surely just a blip. GW8 or 9 is looking more like Wildcard territory for me.

So I’ll be making a call on this at around 530pm on Friday after the Pressers have all been done and I’ve had some time to collect my thoughts. At present I’m probably favouring the Cantwell/Otamendi option with Abraham coming in next week but we’ll see. I’ll Tweet my final line-up at around 6pm. For my team this week, I’ll likely leave Lundstram and Guilbert on the bench and I’m (foolishly?) giving a non-gametime secure Sterling the armband once more. Hopefully Pep’s Rotation Roulette is kind and he won’t let me down again.

Good luck for GW6 folks – I hope you enjoy the games.

Chris Tucker

Chris’s last 2 seasons overall rank were 17k and 1k

GW5 points: 51 (average 52) Total points 307 Gameweek rank 3,488k, Overall Rank: 234k, red arrow 82k, Team Value: £100.9m

Ultimately deciding to keep Callum Wilson saved my last gameweek, taking my score to around average. His reward? He’s been booted out in favour of Abraham! Why would I do this?

Firstly, not having Abraham or any Chelsea attacking coverage is costing me in my main mini-league. Secondly, there’s no denying that Abraham is in form and, while I have always had doubts about his ability, at nearly 25% ownership (compared to Wilson’s 10%) I’d prefer to cover off the risk of not owning him through this purple patch. Particularly looking ahead to Brighton at home next week. Finally, it releases half a million in funds that I can use to improve my overall team.

With another free transfer, that second move will either be Ryan to Pope or Stephens to Cantwell. I don’t want to be priced out of the latter by waiting so that’ll likely be the decision. Not only that, but it would mean that I don’t need to continue playing Lundstram every week.

I’m sure that Wilson will continue to get goals, and points, but I can live with that as I do believe that these transfers will improve my overall team.

Best of luck to you all.

Mikael L Danielsen

Mikael’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 12k, 100k and 5k

GW5 points: 43 (average 52) Total points 279 Gameweek rank 5,192k, Overall Rank: 1,403k, red arrow 630k, Team Value: £101.3m

Was planning to wait, and bank a transfer, but I would be 0.1 short if I did.
So VVD and Greenwood is out for Rico and Abraham. I took a -4 hit.

Costas Chari

Costas’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 84k, 29k and 27k

GW5 points: 69 -8 (average 52) Total points 285 Gameweek rank 685k, Overall Rank: 1,054k, green arrow 425k, Team Value: £100.5m

Finally got a break! Green arrow of 0.5mil approx even though i took a 8 point hit.

I trusted my instinct and went – 8 to get SON and it really paid off. He sat at 2.6%ownership which is now double and aldeady got a price rise so its always good to get an in form player early. Gutted McGinn blanked as he could have easily got a goal with the chances he had.

This week I wont be doing any transfers as I believe I have a good squad for the GW and and any additions wont do me any good. I also want to save transfers to get Aubameyang after the Man U game. I had planned to change Ryan to Pope but I Have zero in the bank and so I am short 0.1. Hopefully Ryan can get save points. It is games like this (away to NEW) that if they manage a CS we are talking double digits from Ryan.

I was also thinking of switching King to Wood but King was amazing against Everton so I am sticking with him.

Captain- I have it on Sterling although I know that he is rotation prone. Even if he gets 60min I think he can do some damage.

Good luck people!!!

Geek note:  Costas did King to Wood.  Team doesn’t show that
