Introduction

This is part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv finished with an overall rank of 4k last season and 8k in 17/18

GW28 points: 43 (FPL average 26) Total points 1,683 Gameweek rank 536k, Overall Rank: 4k, green arrow 2k, Team Value: £107.3m

Yaniv has used his triple captain chip

Hi all, so another good week in a great run , 43 points , 500k gw rank, which brought me inside the top 5k, and also to the top spot in the contributors league for the first time this season (who would have thought about this after bad start of the season with OR of 2m after GW4).

TV is very high with 107.3 , and it will help me before doing my WC later on,

The Martial injury issue got me to bring in the man of the hour of United, Bruno who got another return although Pickford should have taken the goal, Boly with a CS, Ayew with a surprising return, and a nice gesture from De Gea to Calvert Lewin, who gave another strong performance (it was very good call to keep him instead of Ings although the tough fixtures, I think he should have at least a brace in all of his last 4 games, so more to come I guess),

As for this GW and the following ones, so a DGW for City and Arsenal not surprisingly, the armband was on De Bruyne, as I thought that he will start in both games, and has a good chances to return in both (just a small reminder, his best game of the season was against Arsenal), but now a small injury, I thought maybe to change him, but I guess he will play in the second game eventually. I am therefore keeping the armband on him for now until the news about him will be clearer. If we put the DGW aside, I have a very strong lineup so I will not take a hit, and I can’t see any 1 FT who can bring me in a player I want from City or Arsenal without hurting the team.

Unfortunately I have only 5 players for GW31, I really would like not to FH in GW31, and without hits I will have 8 players, maybe I will take -4 to get 9 and keep the important cheap for GW34/GW37.

If the armband will be out from De Bruyne it will go to Salah (Reminder, Mane was my differential captain in the last 2 weeks, but because he played 90 minutes in mid week, it will be Salah).
Good luck all guys!!

Kris O

Kris’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 44k, 46k and 23k

GW28 points: 23 -4 (FPL average 26) Total points 1,584 Gameweek rank 4,391k, Overall Rank: 149k, red arrow 47k, Team Value: £104.5m

Kris has used none of his chips

After two green arrows back to reality with a red arrow. Yet again I made the wrong call on injury news taking a four point hit on Zaha for Martial; and compounding by using extra funds to bring in Boly (0 points) rather than Cahill (6 points).

On the plus side my team has De Bruyne (a positive only if he is fit), Mahrez and Aubameyang ready for DGW 29. My plan this week is to replace Ryan and thought is now Leno, which surprises me given I have doubts over Arsenal defence but he can’t do much worse than Ryan!

Captain this week is Aubameyang. De Bruyne vice, but will move to Mahrez if injury looks worse.

The fa cup results have compounded my decision to free hit 31. On the hope GW34 will be light on doubles I will use my four transfers to set my team for GW34 and then wildcard gw36 ready for bench boost GW37. I will then need to consider when to play my triple captain. If no double in GW34 then I’ll likely stick it on Aubameyang this week!

Transfer summary:  likely Ryan out and Leno in

Costas Chari

Costas’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 84k, 29k and 27k

GW28 points: 24 -4 (FPL average 26) Total points 1,578 Gameweek rank 4,089k, Overall Rank: 174k, red arrow 50k, Team Value: £102.3m

Costas has used his triple captain chip and his 2nd wildcard

Well that was a disaster, back in December on my birthday I had my worse ever GW 22 points. I thought it couldn’t have gone any worse but never say never, 20 points this gw. This has led to a 50k red arrow just when I was getting close to the 100k and building momentum.

4 players benched, captain blank and just 2 returners in Jimenez and Lascelles. To make it even worse my transfer in of Vardy for who I got for  a 4 point hit did not make the squad and Aubameyang who I  transferred out now has a double gameweek.

Anyway.. My transfer this week is Rico out for Robertson and I hope Liverpool go wild at home against Bournemouth. They lost the 3 of their last 4 games so hopefully they will wake up.

Captain: loads of great options, currently on De Bruyne due to the double gameweek although I will have to monitor his injury. If not him then Salah

Lineup… Cant decide between Henderson (Norwich are hitting form) vs McCarthy and Stephens vs Saint Maximin. I wouldn’t want to have both Saints defenders in that’s for sure and I would like not to miss a Saint Maximin return in the PL. So probably staying with him and the goalkeeper choice will be down to the last minute.

Transfer summary:  Rico out for Robertson

Stephen Troop

Stephen’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 43k, 52k and 64k

GW28 points: 33 (FPL average 26) Total points 1,564 Gameweek rank 1,898k, Overall Rank: 239k, green arrow 3k, Team Value: £103.1m

Stephen has played his triple captain chip

We’ve hit the trickiest part of the FPL calendar in my opinion. We know who is blanking in GW31 and we need a plan to navigate it plus maximise our points in future DGWs. In addition we have an immediate DGW29 on our hands for City and Arsenal. I could still do anything from wildcard, free hit and just holding a transfer this week, there are so many options.

Option 1 – use FTs to navigate BGW31, Free hit one DGW and wildcard then bench boost the other DGW.
Option 2 – Wildcard to get 4 DGW29 players plus cover myself for GW31.
Option 3 – FH GW31 and use FTs to get DGW players in.
Option 4 – FH this week to maximise DGW players and use FTs to navigate BGW31.

I don’t like option 4 and 2. Simply because my single gameweek players have good fixtures this week.

Option 3 is nice and would involve getting Aubameyang in for Vardy this week. This however would involve a -4, removing Vardy who plays Aston Villa and Arsenal don’t have the best DGW. I also already have a lot of BGW players, so could be a waste of the FH chip.

So I’m leaning towards option 1. I have Pope, Alexander Arnold, Robertson, Saiss, Salah, Traore and Jimenez in my team so it’d be relatively easy to get at least 9 playing in BGW31. and the options for this gameweek are fairly limited anyway. I’d like Sarr, who I can get for the injured Traore this week, then hopefully hold and have 2FT going into GW31. It’s a shame I can’t take advantage of the DGW but long term it seems to most sensible and easiest to execute strategy.

I’ll captain De Bruyne unless he is ruled out. Captaining an out of form Salah in the early kick off would be painful if he blanks again and then have to watch De Bruyne in a City double gameweek. I expect Salah to do well though. It is a Bournemouth defence after all, and their recent defensive stats are poor.I’ll finalise my decision tomorrow night.

Good luck all

Transfer summary:  Possible Sarr for Traore.

Andrew Pratt

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 8k last season and 1k in 17/18

GW28 points: 25-4 (FPL average 26) Total points 1,523 Gameweek rank 3,814k, Overall Rank: 543k, red arrow 94k, Team Value: £103.3m

Thoughts on Gameweek 28

This continues to be a very bad run for me. This was my 4th consecutive red arrow and a 94k drop to outside the top 500k.

I heard in advance of GW28 the news that Vardy would not feature this gameweek and considered shifting him for Jimenez but decided to keep him since the injury sounded light and his fixtures remain good even if his form is poor. There was no news of a City GW29 double in advance of the GW28 deadline so I moved out non-playing Aguero and Grealish for Jimenez and Richarlison (and not Fernandes as I’d planned). I felt the Richarlison (reasonable form plus a good chance of a GW31 fixture but tough fixtures between now and then) versus Fernandes (I’m a United fan and am having difficulty accepting that something this good could possibly last) move was a 50/50 call. I think my keenness to not use my free hit chip in GW31 might’ve been playing on my mind so Richarlison got the nod. In hindsight this was an error in that Fernandes hauled and we now know that Richarlison has a blank in GW31. It’s been that type of season.

Jimenez was my only returner from 10 players after Gomez and Rico didn’t play. It was bad but might actually have been even worse!

Thoughts on Gameweek 29 and beyond

Blank GW31 has now been decided. I’d like to not use my free hit chip then but I’d want at least 8 reliable starters to save it. So, my 6 Liverpool and Wolves assets are looking good. I also have Noble so that makes 7 GW31 likely starters as it stands now. I’ll hold these 7 for the next few gameweeks. One or two more GW31 players will no doubt join my team in the coming weeks. Spurs and Watford cover would be useful too.

Arsenal and City will get a double this week so my transferring Aguero out for Jimenez instead of Vardy out for Jimenez a few minutes before the GW28 deadline seems to have been an error. Painfully, Vardy remains a doubt for this gameweek. More painfully, Kevin de Bruyne is my only City coverage right now and he has picked up a shoulder injury and he too is a doubt. I also have no Arsenal coverage at all. For someone who stuck with City for so long, it seems unfortunate to miss out on a potential haul now. It has me wondering if I should pull the wildcard out but I’m holding my jerky knees for now as the team is still relatively okay. Watch this space – the wildcard might still happen to create a strong GW29 team with 6 City and Arsenal players.

So far I’ve made my one free transfer (Rico to Doherty) but I’m considering at least one more if it’s not to be the wildcard. Richarlison might make way for Mahrez, who I realise is a rotation risk. Another option is Vardy out for Jesus (the high risk-reward option which would be boosted by Aguero being rested).

Here’s the team after the first (Doherty for Rico) change:

Captain won’t be Kevin de Bruyne while he’s flagged. It’ll probably go to Salah with vice Doherty or Kevin de Bruyne.

Good luck to you all!

transfer summary:  Rico out Doherty in
