You may have seen the Geeks article on players who could miss GW1 due to the late round International tournament involvement.
I have completed 2 drafts. The first assumes the England players who went to the Euros will start in GW1. The 2nd draft assumes they won’t be available
Draft 1 – England players available
Draft 2 – No England players available
The Difference between the 2 sides
Shaw OUT and Reguilon IN
Grealish OUT and Son IN
Gilmour OUT and Raphina IN
Calvert-Lewin OUT and Perica IN
Gilmour is obviously Scottish but I needed a value tweak and Grealish to Son isn’t a straight swap.
A few notes
Over preseason I’ll Monitor Grealish, Calvert-Lewin and Shaw. If they look to miss out then I’ll swap them out. When we get notice of that is the tricky bit.
Double Liverpool Defence
Double Liverpool fullbacks as a differential that isn’t a huge gamble. Geek had Liverpool 3rd in his Defensive team rankings last season even with all the injuries and this year they should have the full compliment with Konate added. Geek also had Alexander Arnold as 2nd in his attacking defender Rankings and Robertson 8th
Harrison and Raphinha
Harrison over Raphinha as a differential to make funds work for the squad as well. I don’t think there is much between them.
Points per match had Raphinha at 4.4 and Harrison at 4.4. Raphinha was a sub first few games so his number should really be a bit higher, which is why I did the minutes per goal or assist which has Raphina 147 minutes and Harrison at 158
Raphinha is definitely better in my mind. Not by a mile though. The general value of both of them is immense. Any other attacking player with stats like theirs are all around £7.5m+ H Barnes, Zaha and James Rodriguez are right around them at £7.0m. The forwards though are all priced so much higher
Brandon Williams
I’m hoping a £4.0m defender emerges during pre-season. The Man Utd LB was supposed to be going to Southampton but that now seems doubtful. With Telles as a back up to Shaw though a loan still seems possible
No Fofana
No Fofana in my draft but I’m going to Wildcard early and their fixtures aren’t actually very good at beginning. So while he’s the flavour of the preseason for £4.5m, I like my defence better.
No Jota
This may surprise you as if you read my articles last season you were probably bored with me talking about how much I rated him.
I prefer Jack Harrison and Alexander Arnold to Jota and another defender. There are A LOT of amazing £6m-6.5m midfielders I like this season. Saka, Harrison, Raphinha and Sarr are all of interest.
Bachmann over Sanchez
At the moment I’m going with the £4.5m Watford GK Bachmann instead of the more template £4.5m Brighton GK Sanchez
Both have great fixtures. I read the Geeks Watford article and they should be decent defensively. Ultimately, I think I will get more save points + bonus from Bachman than Sanchez.
Brighton were 4th ranked in shots per game against. He only got 10 save points total in 27 games.
Brighton are really good defensively because they don’t allow many shots. Sanchez was 12th in GK Points per Match. I may very well start with him though as I may ultimately take the view that it’s not worth fighting the ownership and the fixtures are good enough. I just have a feeling Bachman will be a better overall £4.5m keeper. Ben White likely going to Arsenal helps the Bachmann argument too
No Son Heung-Min in the England players draft
The only player I really really really wanted but couldn’t fit in the first draft above was Son. It came down to a choice of Grealish and Calvert-Lewin/Alexander Arnold vs Son and Pukki/Stones. I preferred the former
Tammy Abraham
The £6.5m Chelsea striker was out of favour with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel last season and has been linked with loads of clubs including Arsenal, West Ham and Aston Villa.
If he does that could change my forward lineup as he scored 15 goals and 6 assists in 19/20 at at an impressive goal or assist every 105 minutes.
Sergio Torija
Sergio’s last 5 seasons overall ranks were 262k 2k, 596k, 17k and 21k
