Alon Shamir
Alon’s last 5 seasons overall ranks are 44k, 1k, 123k, 4k and 2k
This year I decided to not prepare any draft until the last week before the season opens, and just absorb as much info as possible. The last few days however, were full of tinkering.
Here is how my latest draft looks like:
Structure
I am a big fan of the 4-4-2 formation. I like its flexibility and thinks it’s a good starting point before we have enough info to determine this season’s “optimal formation”.
Goalkeeper
I like 4.5 million goalkeepers with high save points and bonus potential and I don’t see any such from the Twitter sweetheart Sanchez. I am also sceptical of Brighton’s defence strength. Watford have good opening fixtures and kept the most clean sheets in the championship last season. The PL is a different story but I hope that the save points would compensate for the loss of clean sheets and boost the haul potential.
Defence
Alexander Arnold and Shaw have never left my squad. I think they are the best value for money defenders in the game currently.
Dias is another player who I think might be 0.5 underpriced. Stones should present even better value but his spot in the opening lineup is also less secured.
Coufal showed in the end of last season he offers a great deal of attacking threat. If West Ham manages to keep a few clean sheets early on he should be a steal at this price.
Midfield
Salah and Bruno Fernandes don’t require much explanations. Although it is a bit tempting to downgrade Bruno to Son and use the money elsewhere.
Jota is a player I really like as he can offer a premium player’s output for a discounted price. Only question is whether he starts regularly. Considering he started and delivered in recent friendlies and the fact that Firmino has joined the squad only recently, my guess is that Jota’s spot is secured for the first 2 GWs at least.
Raphina is a joy to watch but underperforms his Xg regularly (last year he has at least). I would choose another player for that spot but I cant find any better replacement in that price point as things stand.
Forwards
Antonio is also in my squad from start and won’t be going anywhere. I rate him highly as a fantasy asset as he constitutes the focal point of West Ham’s attack.
Ings might change to another 6.5-7.5 attacker since he just joined Villa and might take some time to settle, but his finishing ability plus Villa’s opening fixtures are difficult to ignore.
Further thoughts
The recent Robertson injury makes me contemplate a switch from Dias and Jota to Tsimikas and Mahrez. I really like Mahrez but you can never trust Pep who might bench him for the easier fixtures. Liverpool’s fixtures on the other hand are fairly easy and therefore Jota’s high ceiling, as things stand, just seem too good to avoid for me.
Here’s my draft as it stands
Costas Chari
Costas’s last 5 seasons were 191k, 17k, 84k, 29k and 27k

And there where I was sure about 13/15 players in my team and then Robertson gets injured so back to the drawing board.
teams with good fixtures other than Man United and Liverpool….
Thoughts on Villa… even though they have 3 great first gameweek fixtures I won’t be adding a player in my team. It was all about Grealish and Watkins last season and one of them is now injured and the other is not in the team. Three new attacking players need time to glue so I’m staying away.
Thoughts on West Ham. I am thinking of tripling up to be honest. Antonio, Coufal and Benrahma especially if the latter can keep his pre season form would be a great differential.
Thoughts on Brighton. We all have a defender so I’ll talk about Trossard. Everyone knows I love the player but I would feel better if there was someone to finish the chances he creates.
Thoughts on Newcastle. not touching their defence but Wilson and SaintMaximin have some potential given their low ownership so one of them will make my team.
The following drafts all have Sanchez, Alexander Arnold, Shaw, Coufal, Bruno Fernandes, Greenwood, Salah and Antonio
Draft 1 – the 3-4-3
Adding Jota in midfield and Toney as a CF. Jota has had a great euro and pre season and has great fixtures. Toney is highly owned, on pens and has good fixtures but there is an injury doubt and its always risky getting players from promoted teams
Draft 2. the Jota, Benrahma, Ayling as a good sub
Benrahma has had a great pre season and this draft allows me to have a playing bench player in Ayling who can well be White.
Draft 3. the Benrahma, Mahrez, Saint-Maximin
Saint-Maximin instead of Wilson, Saint-Maximin has played in the front 2 and flourished last year when Willock was playing. this draft allows me to have Mahrez which although is explosive he is a rotation threat
Sergio Torija
Sergio’s last 5 seasons overall ranks were 262k 2k, 596k, 17k and 21k
