Here’s my fantasy premier league team selection GW17 article. As is normal, I review GW16, share my transfer thoughts, captain choice and the lineup dilemmas.
fantasy premier league team selection GW17 – the FFGeek team
Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 3 seasons overall ranks are 36k, 17k and 21k.
GW16 review
Here’s the points and the basic stats
GW16 points: 51 (FPL average 54) Total points 886 , Gameweek rank 4,397k, Overall Rank: 579k, red arrow 145k, Team Value: £102.6m
Here’s the points:
So a huge red arrow to 575k overall. I covered the gameweek in detail in my early FFGeek team thoughts article so go there if you want to read more on my tale of woe.
Transfer thoughts
1 free transfer and £1.5m in the bank
My original plan was to carry over the free transfer to GW18 to have maximum flexibility for the week where the Liverpool v West Ham game has been postponed.
However the confirmation that Tomori is definitely out of GW17 has changed that. That gives me a problem in that my bench isn’t helpful to solve the situation with Cantwell again having lost his place.
So I decided that it was worth making the transfer. I had 4 options in my mind
- Harry Maguire. I just can’t believe United’s defensive underlying stats won’t turn into clean sheets at some stage and the fixtures are excellent. However that spends a decent amount of my cash and means I can’t upgrade other areas with as much flexibility as I’d like
- Reece James. I really like the Chelsea fullback from an attacking sense and he has started the last 3. I still worry that he will be rotated given that Azpilicueta could take the position quite easily. He’s also only £0.3m cheaper than Maguire and the fixtures aren’t anything like as good
- Aurier. Now a right winger effectively in Mourinho’s system. There’s 3 good fixtures at GW19 but the next 2 aren’t great.
- Martin Kelly. 3 good fixtures next. This gives me flexibility to upgrade Hayden or Cantwell to either Grealish or El Ghazi as they have a really nice fixture run from GW18-21. It also means I could upgrade either Jimenez or Abraham for Rashford if it became a captain issue in GW18. Kelly will have to be moved out at some stage when Ward returns but that doesn’t seem imminent.
I’m not a huge fan of deciding transfers on the basis of future transfers as more transfers than you think are reactive to injuries, team selection etc and you can end up never doing that future transfer that earmarked because of an unexpected event. Hope that makes sense? However overall option 4 seems the best one.
So Tomori out and Kelly in. So now £1.8m in the bank.
Lineup
The transfer makes it easy. My only consideration was whether I put Hayden before Cantwell as in theory he could pick up 3 points over Cantwells likely 1. Hayden could also be yellow carded for 1 point or sent off so I’ve stuck with Cantwell as first sub. Hayden second and Rico last.
Captain thoughts
See my captain analysis article if you want a load of information on the best captain pick. I’m going for the runaway captain poll leader in Vardy with Mane as vice
The team lineup then
Best of luck to everyone for GW17
