Introduction

This is part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

Gameweek 30

GW30 went badly – but it could’ve been even worse! My transferred out Leeds triplets didn’t punish me too badly against Sheffield United. My Chelsea triple up was useless. Adams came on for 4 minutes to consign Dias’ 6 points to my bench and duly missed a one-on-one with Pope. Most frustrating though was Richarlison’s host of wasted opportunities. Thankfully Captain Kane delivered.

Gameweek 31

I find myself with 2 free transfers (and 0.0 in the bank) but in a generally sticky situation. My Chelsea defence disappointed in GW30 so I need their resilience to return immediately against Palace. I have no Liverpool assets. Adams looks like he’ll lose minutes now that Ings is back and he has no fixture in BGW33 – so he must go soon. Jorginho is also in the departures lounge. I have 2 Spurs assets for their double in GW32. I have only 8 players for BGW33 and one of them is Jorginho – so call that 7½ players. My 3 Man City assets are likely to be rotated heavily in the coming gameweeks, so a playing bench is important. A big double gameweek later in the season is still possible so those with chips remaining may benefit heavily, and with only my TC chip left there’s not much I can do to mitigate this.

I considered downgrading Cresswell to Phillips (LIV) to fund Adams to Wood. However, I still fancy Cresswell’s chances of assisting despite him underperforming since I brought him in (and given the likely absence of Rice and Antonio), and Wood is hardly reliable. I considered losing one of my City mids (for the likes of Jota) but they could very easily haul against Leeds this week, provided they start. In the end I went Dias out to Phillips (I figure both have similar upsides of around 6 points over the next few weeks, plus Liverpool have a fixture in BGW33 when City don’t) to fund Fabri to Lloris.

This move might sound I little left of centre but any other Spurs asset I’d bring in for their attractive double in DGW32 would miss BGW33, and make worse the hole I have in my already light BGW33 team. In this scenario Martinez plays in BGW33. Spurs also have Sheffield United in GW34, so a clean sheet then is very possible. Similarly, Phillips should play in BGW33. So, these two transfers give me 9 current players for BGW33 (8½ players if I can’t get rid of Jorginho before then) and two free transfers in the lead up to bring me up to around 11 players for BGW33. It gives me 3 Spurs doublers for GW32, although I don’t really trust Spurs. Salah worries me. I’m thinking I may do something like de Bruyne to Salah and Adams to Vydra in the near future, possibly for a hit.

I’m not decided on which keeper to play. I plan to start Jorginho in the hope that he either starts or gets 0 minutes. I’m preparing for my bench to figure especially with City’s likely rotation. I think Leicester will score so I’ll probably have Cresswell 3rd on the bench and hope Adams gets some minutes against West Brom. I’ll likely go with de Bruyne as captain with vice on Kane.

Transfer summary: Dias out for Phillips in and Fabri out for Lloris

My current draft WC team has Lingard as captain this GW. The other options are Salah, Trent or Kane.

I have £3.4m in the bank to go Lingard to Son for GW32. However, I’m unsure whether to go for Son. He’s not in great form and other teams have decent fixtures in GW32. I could look to cover the Spurs DGW with Kane as triple captain. That said, Son is highly owned and a premium player that could haul at any time. The other point to consider in my current draft is the lack of Man City vs Leeds. My available funds mean that my options are Mahrez or Gundogan for Jota or Lingard. I just don’t know if Pep roulette is worth it. At the moment I’m leaning towards no City for GW31 and no Son for GW32.

If I go with no City and no Son, I’m thinking of making a few changes to my WC as per the second team below. The changes would be Rudiger out, James in; Amartey out, Lascelles in; Ihenacho out Lacazette in. I’d then seriously consider giving Lacazette the armband away to Sheffield United. This also leaves me £0.3m to get Ings in for Lacazette for Southampton’s double.

Lots to think about! Any thoughts are welcome.

Remember it’s a Friday 18.30 (UK time) deadline this week.

Enjoy the game week.

There are a few spots I’m still a bit unsure about, which are Martinez, Coady, Rudiger, Lingard and Vydra.

The biggest dilemma is around Martinez vs Mendy. The former seems to be the template GK with 40% ownership. But Villa defence has been leaky of late and the fixtures aren’t favourable either. So it’s a question of whether I play it safe from an EO perspective or go with the WC template Mendy.
Lingard is also a similar EO pick and probably the likes of Neto, Saka or even Smith-Rowe would’ve been the ideal fixture punts.

Coady on the other hand is purely a fixture punt anticipating that the defence will improve over those upcoming fixtures. But it’s a decision I’m still debating as I look for better alternatives at the price range.

Another concern is the lack of City mids ahead of Leeds which is a juicy fixture for any starting City attacker. Unfortunately that’s where things get tricky especially with their crucial away leg of UCL to be played right after. So I’m going to brave it without one for now and I hope it doesn’t hurt me.

Captaincy will most likely be on Salah this week with the vice captaincy on a well rested Harry Kane.

After much deliberation I have decided NOT to play my WC this GW and save it for GW33.
The main advantage being I will find out how the teams will still compete in Europe and hopefully which teams have DGWs.

It’s a gamble but my rank is around 150K so I fancy trying something different.

The worrying thing is how Mo Salah and Trent Alexander Arnold do at home to Villa.
Liverpool have lost their last 5 at home and have a tricky match against Real
Madrid next week. So it could be a case that they don’t score many points.

I have Kane as captain against a stubborn Man United defence who have barely conceded against the top clubs. But Kane is on absolute fire!

My transfer is Bale out to Jota in to give me some Liverpool coverage

GW32 I will have Kane and Son for the DGWs.

My planned transfer for GW32 is Antonio to Iheanacho for a tasty home match versus the Baggies.
Getting Lloris in for his double is another option.

Then WC33.

I’ll make any transfers after hearing the press conferences.

I know Antonio is out for a while but IF I hear a lot of my players are definitely out such as
Dias, Gundogan plus others I will be tempted to play my Wildcard

Transfer summary: Bale out Jota in
